Micro-market theft: Connecticut now allows breakroom security cameras
A Connecticut law that took effect Oct. 1 allows surveillance cameras to monitor self-service kiosks and merchandise in employee breakrooms, removing a regulatory obstacle for micro-market operators. The change followed a multiyear lobbying effort prompted by operator Berkshire Foods and supported by the National Automatic Merchandising Association and the New England Refreshment Services Association.
Why it matters for directors: Before adding or expanding unattended markets, check your state's workplace-surveillance rules and agree with your operator on how inventory and equipment will be secured.
